Also known as Flush or Flash, Teen Patti is a casino card game that originated in the Indian subcontinent and is popular throughout South Asia. It is a game of cards mostly offered by land-based gambling venues, and played between 3 and 6 players at a time, using a deck of 52 cards.
With the advent of online casinos, it’s now possible for players to enjoy this popular card game from the comfort of their game. When playing online, there are many exciting Teen Patti variations available for players to choose from.
In this article, we’ll take a look at the different Teen Patti variations that you can play online.
Mufliss
Also known as Lowball, Mufliss works just like regular Teen Patti. The only difference here is that the ranking of the hands is reversed. The best hand (trio) becomes the worst hand, and the worst hand (high card) becomes the best hand. So, the player with the weakest hand wins the game in Mufliss. If it happens that two players have the same hand, then the player with the lowest card wins.
Example: If one player has A-A-A and the other has K-K-K, then the latter will win.
AK47
The name of this Teen Patti variant is derived from the famous AK47 rifle. Here, the A, K, 4 and 7 cards of all suits are jokers or wild cards. Players having any of these cards can use it as a substitute for a missing number or suit. All other rules and betting are the same as regular Teen Patti.
Example: If you get A-2-2 and the opponent has Q-4-7, then the opponent will be the winner.
999
In this variation, players must get as close to the number 9-9-9 as possible. The best hand in this variation is 9-9-9 of any suit, and the player who gets close to it wins the game.
Here, the K, Q, J and 10 of any suit are zero and the number cards of the same value printed on them. The value of A card in this variation is 1.
Example: If you get 5-6-A, your number is 1. If you instead get 9-K-5, your number is 905.
It’s worth noting that you’re allowed to change the order of your cards in this variation. So, if you get 9-K-5 (which equals to 905), you are allowed to change the order of your cards to get 950. This makes it easier for you to get closer to 999.
4x Boot
4X Boot uses the same rules as standard Teen Patti. The only difference here is that the boot value will be 4 times the normal boot value. If you’re new to Teen Patti, then it would be worth pointing out that the boot value is the minimum amount of chips that you must put in the pot before starting the game.
Plus Sign
In this variation, three cards are dealt with each player at the table and a plus sign is made on the table with 5 cards. The 5 cards in Plus Sign are joker cards, meaning they can have any value.
When playing this variation of Teen Patti, players will have to choose jokers either from the vertical or horizontal set of cards arranged in the sign. The dealer will decide whether the player can choose from the horizontal or vertical set. Once the cards are dealt, the round continues as usual. When there is a show, players can take advantage of joker cards.
In-out
In this variation, the dealer gives three cards to each player and opens 3 jokers on the table. Then turn by turn, all players choose whether they’re ‘in’ or ‘out’, meaning whether or not they think the game is good to play. ‘In’ means that the player wants to keep playing, and ‘out’ means that the player wishes to fold. If a player wishes to be ‘in’, he has to put an additional bet.
When a player is out, his cards become new jokers and they replace the previous ones.
Finally, once everyone has their turn, if more than one player is ‘in’ then their cards are compared based on the final jokers and the player with the best hand wins. He then collects all the money in the pot. Players who lose the game have to pay the same amount in the pot. For instance, if the winning player collects Rs. 500 for the pot, all losers have to pay Rs. 500 each to the pot. After this, a new round begins.
Temperature
This game is a variation of in-out (which you can read above). Here, three cards are given to all players and three jokers are face-up on the table. After the cards are dealt, the players must state if they’re in or out. This is done by players putting their thumb up for ‘in’ and down for ‘out’.
After everybody says whether they’re in or out, a ‘temperature’ card is drawn and open on the table. If the temperature card is between A and 6, the lowest hand wins. But if the temperature card is between 7 and K, the highest hand wins the game. All the other rules are the same as the in-out game.
3-2-1
In this variation, players are dealt with 6 cards each. All players will then have to arrange their cards into three separate hands. The first hand will have three cards, the second hand will have two cards and the third hand will comprise one hand. Players have the option to arrange the card however they want.
After the arrangement, the game proceeds by betting on the first hand. Once the winner for the first hand is decided, the next round continues with the second hand. The last round of the game is played with the third hand (one card).
To win the game, players have to win two or more of the rounds. If you win all the rounds, you collect all the money that has been accumulating during the rounds. If there is no winner in two or more rounds, the money stays in the pot and the game is repeated.
Rotating Jokers
Just like the traditional game of Teen Patti, each player is dealt with three cards – one open card and two closed cards are placed in front of everyone. The open card is the player’s private card, which can have any value.
When a player folds in Rotating Jokers, that player’s open card becomes a joker for all other players. When this happens, players can no longer use their own joker card. Again, when the next player folds in the game, his open card becomes the next joker.
Closest to 555
In this variation, players are dealt with three cards each. All the players have the option to exchange one of their cards with one from the pack. Here, players can exchange the card during the first two rounds.
All the A, K, Q and J cards in this variation are counted as 0, and the number cards from 2 to 9 have their face value. The player with the hand closest to 5-5-5 wins the game.
Draw
In this variation, players place a pre-agreed amount in the pot. After this, all the players are dealt with three cards each.
As a player, you have the option to discard a card and request a new one, and you can do it if you’re playing blind or chaal.
In order to replace the card, you have to put a pre-agreed amount in the pot. It’s worth pointing out that you can replace only three cards in each round.
Community
This variant is inspired by Texas Hold’em Poker and has two versions – the 3-card community and 5-card community. In the 3-card Community, players are given one face-up card and two face-down cards. The face-up card is called the community card.
In the 5-card version, players are dealt with two face-down cards and three face-up cards. Players will have to select one of the face-down cards with two face-up cards to make a hand. The dealer will also place three-community cards on the table.
After creating a hand, players have the option to replace any of their cards with the community card on the table. It’s worth noting that players are not allowed to play blind or chaal in this variation.
High wild
Here, a player’s lowest-value card and all other cards with the same value are the jokers for that player.
Example: If you have 4-4-8, your 3’s are jokers and can have any value or suit. You can then substitute your 4’s to two 8s to form a trio.
Sudden Death
In this Teen Patti variation, the dealer deals a pack of cards (52 cards) equally to all players at the table. For instance, if there are 13 players, then each player will be dealt with 13 cards each.
As a player, you hold your cards between your thumb and ring finger, and keep dropping the cards until one player yells stop! Then from the remaining cards in your hand, choose the card with the highest value.
All players then compare their cards and the player who has the highest card wins.
Auction
In this game, all players are dealt with three cards each. The dealer also places two piles of three cards each on the table. Here, each pile consists of one open card and two close cards. The open cards serve as jokers for all players.
The two piles are then open for auction, and all players take their turn to make bids for the piles before the start of the round. Players who have a better hand may simply choose to pass the bid. The highest bidder then replaces the new pile of cards with the old ones. The players’ old cards are then discarded. The money that was put up for the bid is put in the main pot.
Once both piles of cards are sold, the betting process continues as normal Teen Patti.
Kiss-Miss-Bliss
This is an exciting variation of Teen Patti where the dealer deals five cards to each player. You’ll have to choose any two cards and put them together to make a joker.
There are three types of jokers you can make in this Teen Patti variation – Kiss, Miss or Bliss. A pair having the same numbers is called Bliss, while a Kiss is a pair having two consecutive numbers. The Miss is the pair missing one in the sequence.
For instance, if you get 5-5 or 4-4 it is considered a Bliss, 2-3 or 9-10 is considered as Kiss, 3-5 or 7-9 is considered Miss.
Note that you can only form one joker card in each round. One of the remaining cards needs to be discarded for the game to continue. That way, you’ll only have 3 cards – 2 regular cards and 2 cards that form the joker’s hand.
High-Low Split
Unlike traditional Teen Patti where the player with the best Teen Patti hand wins the whole pot, High-Low Split games split the pot amount between the player with the best traditional hand and the player with the low hand.
In this variation, there could be more than two players remaining in play at “show”. There are no sideshows and players can choose to opt-out from the betting round by folding. Usually, there are three to four mutually agreed upon betting rounds where no player chooses to opt-out, before having the show. Also, these games come with a limit of six-to-ten betting rounds at the end of which there is a compulsory show.
Pack Jack
Here, all players are dealt with three cards each and three joker cards (wild cards) are placed on the table. Whenever any player packs (fold) in the game, his 3 cards become the three new jokers. The new joker cards are placed on the table and replace the previous joker cards.
Again, when another player folds in the game, his cards replace the previous joker cards.
Joker Hunt
The dealer deals three cards to each player and then places some cards face-up on the table. The number of cards to be placed face-up by the dealer is twice the number of players plus 3. For example, if there are 5 players at the table, then the dealer will open 5 x 2 + 3 = 13 cards at the table.
In the next two rounds, players need to select one open card and discard one from their hand. A player can choose not to pick any card but needs to close one of the open cards. That way, the closed open card is removed after two rounds. Three open cards are left as jokers and the betting process continues as usual.
Buying joker seen and unseen
Each player is dealt 3 cards. Then there are two rounds of buying jokers. In the first round, each player has the option of buying a joker for himself that will be placed in front of him, face up.
This is followed by the second round where each player has the option of buying jokers open on the table in front of any of the other players. Jokers from the first round are retained but shared with a player who pays for them in the second round.
After the second round, the normal game proceeds with the joker in effect.
Banko
Banko is an interesting variation of Teen Patti where each player plays separately and the game takes turn after turn for each player. When it’s your turn to play, you need to place a pre-agreed amount in the pot. The dealer then places two face-up cards in front of you. As a player, you have to bet whether the next card will be within those numbers or not.
If your guess is correct, you stay in the game. If you’re wrong, you are out. The game continues in this manner until there is only one player left. The last player wins the entire pot.
King Little
In King Little Teen Patti variation, players are dealt with three cards each. Here, the king and the smallest card are considered as a joker. A joker can be used as any card of the player’s choice. So, if you get a king in the game, your chances of winning increases. All other rules are the same as the standard variation of Teen Patti.
Kissing Missing
In Kissing Missing, players are dealt four cards each and they need to pick two cards to form a joker. In that way, each player then has two normal cards and one joker card.
There are two types of jokers you can make – Kissing or Missing. To form a Kissing, you need a pair. To create a Missing, you need to get two alternate numbers.
If you’re unable to form a joker, then you need to discard one card so that you have only three normal cards. The game then continues as usual.
Folding joker
Each player at the table gets four cards from the dealer. One of these cards is kept unseen and cannot be included when creating a card. Then from one of the three cards, one card is shown to all players and becomes a joker for all players.
When any player folds in the game, his unseen card becomes an additional joker card. All previous jokers remain in this Teen Patti variation.
All other rules in Folding Joker remain the same as normal Teen Patti.
2 cards open
In 2 Cards Open, two cards are dealt face up and the third card face-down to each player. The normal game continues after the cards are dealt. Players will decide their wager and their next moves based on what the third card could be.
Note that no player has the option to play blind or chaal in this Teen Patti variation. Everyone at the table has to play with two face-up cards and one face-down card.
Wild Draw
Here, three cards are given to each player by the dealer. A random card is then drawn from the deck and placed on the table face-up. The randomly drawn card becomes the joker card for all players.
Example: If the joker card is 5, anyone who has a 5 has the option to pick any number and suit for that card.
Cobra
In this Teen Patti variation, all players place a pre-agreed amount in the pot and are dealt with only one card each. Without seeing their cards, the players pick their cards and place it on their forehead. That way, players are not able to see their own cards but are able to see other players’ cards.
The player with the highest card wins the game. Note that no player has the option to fold in this Teen Patti variation.
Odd Sequence
In Odd Sequence, all the rules are the same as the traditional Teen Patti game. The only difference is in how you form the sequence.
When forming a sequence in traditional Teen Patti, you use consecutive cards like J-Q-K. But, in Odd Sequence, you need alternate cards to form a sequence, such as 9-J-K.
1942 Love Story
In 1942 Love Story, the cards 1, 2, 4 and 9 are automatically adjudged as joker cards and can have any number or suit.
For instance, if you have K-2-Q, you can choose to substitute your 2 to J to form a sequence.
Also, you must converse in Hindi while playing the game. If you speak English, you’re out.
Pairs Are Jokers
Here, seven cards are dealt with each player at the table. All pairs in a player’s hand must be used as jokers. Each player needs to have at least one pair to play the game. If you don’t have a pair, you fold.
When there is a show, players choose their best cards to form their hand.
Lallan Kallan
In this game, the card with the odd colour out of your three cards will be considered as Kallan or joker. For instance, if you have two cards and one black card, then the black card will be your Kallan. However, if you happen to have all three cards of the same colour, you’re disqualified from the game and must fold.
Stud
Stud Teen Patti is similar to Stud Poker where players get a mix of a prearranged combination of face-down and face-up cards. The cards dealt face down to each individual player are called hole cards and the cards dealt face up are called street cards.
Except for this, all other rules are the same as normal Teen Patti.
One-Eyed Jack
In this Teen Patti variant, the jack of hearts and the jack of spades are called one-eyed jack and become jokers. Other two jacks like clubs and diamonds aren’t one-eyed.
